New Chinese Ambassador Promotes Cambodia's Tourism

Phnom Penh, 17 July 2024: Wang Wenbin, the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, is actively promoting Cambodian tourism to the global community.

On his official Facebook page on July 16, Wang Wenbin wrote, "Cambodia, a perfect destination to explore ancient temples, vibrant culture, and charming nature."

Wang Wenbin arrived in Phnom Penh on July 5 to begin his diplomatic term in the Kingdom. Upon his arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport, he briefly addressed the press, expressing his honor and responsibility in becoming the 18th Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia. He highlighted the deep bond of traditional friendship between China and Cambodia, quoting President Xi Jinping's and the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk's analogies of trust and friendship.

The ambassador affirmed his readiness to collaborate closely with Cambodian counterparts to uphold and advance the proud tradition of China-Cambodia friendship. He committed to implementing the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthening their ironclad friendship, and promoting the China-Cambodia community with a shared future, aiming to deliver tangible benefits for the people of both countries.

Cambodia welcomed approximately 2.6 million international tourists in the first six months of 2024, marking a 22 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Among these visitors, 326,003 were Chinese. Minister of Tourism Sok Soken noted that China ranks third among the countries with the highest number of tourists visiting Cambodia in 2024.

"The growth of Chinese tourism is a significant opportunity that not only boosts the development of Cambodian tourism but also creates investment opportunities in various sectors," he emphasized.

Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia's economy, alongside garment, footwear and travel goods exports, agriculture, and construction and real estate. Recently, four of Cambodia's tourist destinations were listed among the top 25 of Asia's best tourist attractions in an award by Tripadvisor. Angkor Wat in Siem Reap took second place, with Ta Prohm and Bayon Temples ranking 19th and 20th, respectively. Phnom Penh's Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum was placed 22nd.

In addition to its ancient temples, Cambodia boasts a 450-kilometer-long pristine coastline across the southwestern provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and Koh Kong.
